Thomas Partey is facing allegations of rape and sexual assault

Thomas Partey remains free to continue his football career despite facing serious criminal charges in the UK.

The 32-year-old Ghanaian midfielder, recently released by Arsenal, is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, to answer to six charges of rape and sexual assault.

Partey was formally charged on July 4, 2025, with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, involving allegations from three different women.

According to court documents, two counts of rape relate to one complainant, three further counts to a second, and the sexual assault charge to a third woman. The incidents are alleged to have taken place between 2021 and 2022.

Partey has denied all allegations. In a statement, his lawyer said, “Thomas Partey denies all the charges against him. He has fully cooperated with the police and CPS throughout their three-year investigation. He now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name.”

Despite the charges, Rob Dorsett of Sky Sports reports that Arsenal carefully followed legal guidance throughout the case, and that Partey remains free to continue his career while the allegations are yet to be tested in court.

According to Rob Dorsett, that Arsenal followed legal advice from the time Partey was first arrested, including putting adequate safeguarding procedures in place to reassure other club staff during the investigation.

Now a free agent, Partey can technically sign for a new club if an employer is willing to take him on, but any deal will come under intense scrutiny, given he faces six serious charges and that a full trial may not happen until 2026.

For now, the midfielder remains eligible to play while legal proceedings continue.
