The Communications Manager of Swedru All Blacks, Nathaniel Obeng, has accused the owner of Elmina Sharks, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, of threatening the referee after his team conceded a penalty in their Division One League match against Swedru All Blacks on Sunday, February 16, 2025.
The penalty, awarded early in the first half, sparked tension among fans at the stadium, delaying the game for over 25 minutes.
According to multiple reports and viral videos on social media, some fans invaded the pitch and clashed with match officials.
Speaking to Sporty FM, Obeng recounted the events leading to the chaos, claiming that Dr. Nduom entered the pitch to confront the referee after the penalty decision.
“Dr. Paa Kwasi Nduom went onto the field to threaten the referee after the penalty was awarded against Elmina Sharks. Where in the world does this happen?” he questioned.
Obeng further alleged that All Blacks players reported that Dr. Nduom instructed the referee to overturn the penalty decision or face a walkout by his team.
“Our players told us that Paa Kwasi Nduom demanded the referee rescind the penalty decision, or he would instruct Elmina Sharks players to walk off the pitch,” he added.
The incident has heightened growing concerns over football-related disruptions, especially in light of the tragic death of a fan during a Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman and Asante Kotoko on February 2, 2025.
Notably, the one-week commemoration of the deceased fan was being held on the same day as the Elmina Sharks vs. Swedru All Blacks game.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has charged Elmina Sharks player Jay Asamoah Kola for his involvement in the assault. He has until Tuesday, February 18, 2025, to respond to the charges.
