Over 5000 members of the Movement for Change have defected to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), citing a lack of seriousness on the part of their leader, Alan Kyerematen.

The defectors, who claimed to be from across the country, said they saw no future with Alan Kyerematen, prompting their decision to support the flagbearer of the governing NPP, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia.

The group, in a press conference in Kumasi on Wednesday, said they are supporting the NPP due to the vision of Dr. Bawumia ahead of the 2024 polls.

Constituency Representative for the Ashanti Akyem Agogo and the spokesman for the defectors, Anthony Ashmond Cobina, said they will now campaign for the NPP.

The group has called on voters in the country to ditch Alan Kyerematen in the 2024 polls, adding that a vote for Alan Kyerematen will only go to waste.

He added that voting for Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia and the NPP was the best for Ghana’s future.
