The Founder and Leader of Asomdwee Ntonton Som, Nyame Somafo Yaw, has claimed that over 30 percent of Ghanaian prisoners are innocent and called on the government to grant a mass amnesty to ease the hardship in the country.
Addressing attendees at the 2025 Asomdwee Ntonton Som convention, Nyame Somafo Yaw stressed that many prisoners have been jailed for crimes they did not commit, saying their “souls are haunting the country.”
He further alleged that some judges were influenced by complaints when sentencing innocent individuals and emphasized that this issue needs urgent attention.
The leader urged the government to review minor cases that have resulted in imprisonment and consider granting amnesty to free those wrongly jailed.
He added that such a move would also help reduce congestion in prisons across the country, creating more space and improving conditions for those incarcerated.
