The Royal Family of England is facing backlash after posting a congratulatory message to the Lionesses, which excludes breakout star, Michelle Agyemang, from the accompanying photos.
The 19-year-old forward, who is of Ghanaian descent, scored decisive late goals in both the quarter-final against Sweden and the semi-final versus Italy, earning widespread praises for rescuing England in crucial moments.
Yet, she was nowhere to be seen in the carousel of images posted across the Royal Family’s social media pages ahead of the Euro final on Sunday, July 27, 2025.
The post featured action shots of several players, including Jess Carter, who had previously left social media due to racist abuse, and a team photo from an earlier match.
But the omission of Agyemang, one of the tournament’s standout performers, sparked anger among fans who accused the Royal Family of overlooking a key Black player.
“She’s literally the reason England are in the final,” one user wrote. “This doesn’t feel like an innocent oversight.”
When asked about the issue at a press conference, England manager, Sarina Wiegman, downplayed any intent to exclude.
“That would never, ever be intentional. We really appreciate the Royal Family’s support. It’s unfortunate that Michelle is not in the picture, but there are good intentions,” she said.
Still, the damage was done online, where supporters questioned how such a glaring omission could happen in 2025, especially after past calls for better representation and sensitivity in public posts.
The Royal Family has not yet commented on the criticism.
