    After Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) failure, questions about Otto Addo’s future remain unanswered.

    Calls for the dismissal of the former Borussia Dortmund assistant coach have intensified, with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) summoning him to appear before the Executive Council on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

    Addo is expected to defend his technical report following the failed AFCON qualifying campaign, where the Black Stars finished last in Group F, amassing just three points and missing out on the continent’s prestigious tournament for the first time in 20 years.

    However, sports journalist Atta Poku, in an interview with 3Sports, believes that recent comments by Akwesi Agyemang, Vice Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, signal Otto Addo’s continuity as head coach. Agyemang had stated in a media interaction that he had advised the Executive Council and Management Committee members against sacking Addo due to complications associated with such a decision.

    “We had the Vice Chairman of the Management Committee, Akwesi Agyemang, going into the media space to say that he has spoken to EXCO members and Management Committee members of the Black Stars, who have all agreed that this is the wrong time to sack Otto Addo. So, it’s quite clear, looking at the news from the corridors of power, that Otto Addo is going to stay on,” Atta Poku said.

    He further alleged that the ongoing meetings organized by the GFA would not impact Addo’s future, dismissing them as part of a charade designed to mislead the public.

    “Any charade being put in place by the GFA or EXCO that they are meeting, postponing, reviewing his report, and will take a decision next week, we all know where this is going. He is going to continue as Black Stars coach,” Atta Poku further stated.

    Otto Addo’s fate will be officially decided when the Executive Council concludes its assessment of his AFCON qualifying campaign on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

    Under Addo’s tenure, Ghana managed only three draws and three defeats, securing three points in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers. Notably, the Black Stars also suffered their first defeat at the Baba Yara Stadium in 24 years under his leadership.
