Former Ghana Football Association Chairman Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe has criticized the delayed dismissal of Otto Addo as head coach of the Black Stars, insisting the decision should have been taken much earlier.

Addo, who was reappointed in March 2024, was relieved of his duties following a string of poor results in Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Black Stars suffered a heavy defeat to Austria in Vienna before losing narrowly to Germany in Stuttgart during the March international window.

Speaking in an interview with Kessben FM, Dr Tamakloe, a board member of Accra Hearts of Oak, described Addo’s tenure as disappointing and below expectations.

He also questioned the former coach’s approach to player selection, particularly his reluctance to utilize home-based players. According to him, advice to scout talent across the country was ignored.

The GFA is expected to appoint a new head coach within the next two weeks as preparations for the Mundial intensify.

Ghana will regroup for friendly matches against Mexico and Wales before facing England, Croatia and Panama in Group L of the tournament.
