Napoli forward Victor Osimhen and Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman have been left out of Nigeria’s squad that will face the Black Stars in the 2025 Unity Cup.

According to the squad announced by Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, the two top players were omitted from the squad for the tournament, with the reason yet to be disclosed.

In their absence, players like first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali were named, along with other key players like Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka, and Christantus Uche.

The attackers include AC Milan’s Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon, Kelechi Iheanacho, and others who will be leading the line.

The absence of the two key players for Nigeria will reduce the pressure on the Black Stars when they face each other.

The Black Stars will open their campaign with a highly anticipated clash against West African rivals Nigeria on May 28, while Trinidad and Tobago will face Jamaica on May 27, 2025.

The winners of these matches will advance directly to the final. The losing teams will play in a third-place match scheduled for May 31, 2025.

Meanwhile, head coach Otto Addo is yet to announce the Black Stars squad for the tournament as momentum builds ahead of the rivalry clash.

There are high expectations for the team after their impressive performance, thrashing Madagascar and Chad in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The Unity Cup is designed to celebrate African and Caribbean football.
