Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi and former Minister for Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has likened the ongoing internal contest of the 2028 flagbearership race of the NPP to the famous Biblical story involving King Solomon and two women over the rights to a baby.
In the Biblical narration, one of the two feuding women for the rightful ownership of the baby did not care about the safety of the baby and asked King Solomon to slit the baby into two and give equal parts to them. But the wise King Solomon was able to determine the rightful mother, following the insensitive and jealous posture of the other woman, who did not show empathy and care for the baby.
Speaking to NPP delegates of his constituency today, Oppong Nkrumah said some of the NPP aspirants were behaving like the woman who wanted the baby destroyed because she was not the rightful owner.
“I want to refer all to the Bible, First Kings 3:16. This is where you find King Solomon and the two women who were fighting for the rights to a baby,” Oppong Nkrumah told his constituents.
When one of the women had opted for the baby to be slit, the other maintained that the baby be kept in the custody of the one who insisted the baby be killed, for it might grow to serve mankind.
However, King Solomon saw this woman’s ingenuity and ruled that she was the mother of the baby.
Likening the situation to the ongoing internal contest of the NPP, Oppong Nkrumah said utterances by some of the aspirants are aimed at creating confusion and disaffection for the party, just as the jealous woman in the King Solomon story who wanted the baby killed.
“When you look at the conversations going on in our internal contest, you’ll realise that whilst some of the aspirants are conducting themselves in a manner that promotes party unity and internal cohesion, others are stoking fire and fuelling disunity, just like the woman who wanted the baby killed,” he said.
“When you listen to the messages of some of the aspirants, it is all about disunity, knocking heads together and causing confusion in our party. They only say things that will make the party unattractive.”
“However, one man, Dr Bawumia, never does that. Today that he’s here, he won’t insult anybody; he won’t say things that will bring disunity to the party. He always talks about his vision and what he will do for this party and the country.”

“So if you want to know, in Biblical context, who you think is the rightful owner (of the child) in this our internal context, as is said in Kings 3:16, the one who is creating disunity and chaos is not the rightful owner.”
Oppong Nkrumah appealed to the party’s delegates to see through and make the best decision for the NPP by electing Dr Bawumia to continue what the party is building.
“I always say that in this party, we always build up to a level and then some people try to bring everything down. God has given us a gift because despite all the challenges in 2024, we had a man who was able to lead us to secure 41.7%.
“We have an opportunity to present him again and build on what we have done, but some people are bent on destroying everything with divisive comments and asking you to destroy everything. These are people who do not love the party’s progress.”
