The Member of Parliament for Asutifi South, Collins Dauda, has expressed concern over the growing trend of misinformation in the country.
According to him, this growing menace could plunge the country into serious harm and destruction if immediate measures are not taken to address it.
NAIMOS Attack: I never ordered release of arrested suspects – Collins Dauda speaks
The lawmaker was responding to allegations that he had ordered the release of arrested illegal miners by the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS).
Dauda dismissed the allegations, stating categorically that he did no such thing.
He also challenged the claims of his alleged involvement, together with his colleague Ebenezer Addo, MP for Asutifi North, in the matter, questioning how a first-time MP [Addo], who was said to have incited the irate youth to attack soldiers, could have carried out such actions, as reported in the media.
“… How can a first timer in Parliament lead thugs to attack NAIMOS. Does it sit well? Social media misinformation is destroying this country. It will finish all of us if we’re not careful. No one called to ask me about my side of the story, meanwhile, my name is being mentioned. I’m talking about the media and per what I know, once the media gets a story, they double check to confirm the truth,” he expressed his concern while speaking on Asempa FM on November 3, 2025.
Earlier reports by Journalist Erastus Asare Donkor claimed that Ebenezer Addo arrived at the scene with thugs demanding the release of arrested illegal miners, including a Burkinabe national.
What we know so far on attack on soldiers by irate youth in Ahafo Hwidiem
He alleged that the MP and his men forcibly removed handcuffs from the suspects and pursued the NAIMOS team to the Hwidiem Police Station, where the mob subsequently gathered.
This account, however, has been dismissed by both MPs as “false and misleading.”
“All the claims that I incited the youth to attack the NAIMOS operations team are completely false. Social media misinformation is destroying this country, it will finish all of us if we’re not caretul.”
