Pope Leo XIV (in red and white attire) blesses Okudzeto Ablakwa (in black suit)

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has said he is honoured to have met the leader of the Catholic Church, Pope Leo XIV, during the Pope’s inauguration Mass at Saint Peter’s Square in Rome, Italy, on Sunday, May 18, 2025.

He indicated that it was a special moment in his life to have had an encounter with the Pontiff after President John Dramani Mahama gave him the opportunity to represent him at the prestigious event.

Ablakwa, who is also the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, expressed his appreciation to the Pope for bestowing upon him blessings that will transform his life to greater heights.

“It has been a profound honour representing President John Mahama and Ghana at the Inauguration Mass of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV at Saint Peter’s Square today.

“I am eternally grateful for the Supreme Pontiff’s blessings and warmth,” Ablakwa wrote on his X page.

At the inauguration, Pope Leo XIV met several leaders from across the world, including United States Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and many others.

The leaders had the opportunity to interact briefly with the Pope and received blessings from him through prayer.
