Former Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku-Mantey, has warned New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong, urging him to desist from making disrespectful remarks about industry players, particularly in the entertainment and tourism sectors.

According to Okraku-Mantey, Kennedy Agyapong had previously belittled the contributions of individuals working in the ministry, suggesting they knew nothing about the sector, a comment he finds insulting.

He noted that the MP’s remarks stemmed from the fact that his son was organising an event and claimed to understand the tourism space better.

Okraku-Mantey stated that such comparisons are unfair and amount to a lack of respect for experienced professionals.

Speaking in an interview on Wontumi TV on August 1, 2025, he said, “Out of internal politics, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong went around disrespecting some of us. We were not happy. He said we sit at the ministry knowing nothing just because his son was holding an event. I wasn’t happy. And his son knows that we also know something. I was very disappointed.”

He stressed that he plans to confront Kennedy Agyapong personally about the matter and cautioned him not to repeat such behaviour.

“My brother (Ken) made it seem as though if it’s not about buildings, then there is no tourism, which is not true.

“As he prepares to contest again, he shouldn’t rubbish people, and certainly not some of us. If he is not careful, some of us might respond. And then they will say we don’t respect, but I also have to protect my image. That is all I have.”

Mark Okraku-Mantey advised Kennedy Agyapong to be more measured in his communication and avoid stepping on the toes of industry stakeholders whose efforts have sustained the creative and tourism sectors.
