Issah Okine and Precious Akai Nettey will clash in the welterweight final of the 2026 National Individual Amateur Boxing Championships on February 27 at the Bukom Boxing Arena after securing hard-fought split-decision victories in their semi-finals.

Competing before an expectant crowd at The Gym in Accra, Okine, representing Wisdom Boxing Gym, edged Rafael Lokko 2-1 in a tightly contested bout that ebbed and flowed with every exchange. In a similarly balanced contest at the famed Attoh Quarshie Gym in Jamestown, Nettey also earned a 2-1 split decision over his stablemate Robert Tagoe.

Their victories set up a compelling 67kg final between two rising prospects who have already booked places in the provisional non-residential national team camp, where Ghana’s next generation of Black Bombers will be groomed for international assignments.

The welterweight division has been among the most competitive at this year’s championships, attracting 18 boxers. Its semi-finals were delayed from the opening phase on January 31 after some fighters had already competed twice and were ineligible for a third bout in a single day under competition rules.

The tournament’s opening phase, held from January 30–31, featured 145 boxers across 12 weight categories up to the semi-final stage.
