ASEBU, Central Region – Nana Prof. Okatakyi Amanfi VII, Paramount Chief of the Asebu Traditional Area, has initiated activities to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of his enstoolment, spanning from September to November, coinciding with the 2025 Apeyamkese festival.

Themed ‘Celebrating 25 Years of Impactful Leadership and Over 1,000 Years of Asebu Heritage: Honouring the Past, Empowering the Future,’ the dual celebration will showcase the rich cultural heritage and history of the Asebu people. Official events commenced on Tuesday, September 10, 2025, with Women’s Day, which comprised health screening, cooking, and displaying Asebu traditional cuisines held at Akonoma, one of the traditional towns within the traditional area.

The Planning Committee has outlined a series of elaborate activities befitting the occasion. The celebrations will continue on October 28th with traditional rites at the Amanfi Stool in Asebu Putubiw. This will be followed by a community clean-up exercise on November 1st, which the Chief and his council will personally monitor.

A key highlight will be a public lecture and symposium on Friday, November 7th, at the Nyansapow Eco-Resort in Moree. The event, organized by Okatakyi Amanfi VII, will explore the “History Behind The Treaty of 1612 With The Dutch And The Chiefs of Asebu.” The Netherlands and Egyptian Ambassadors to Ghana have been invited as Special Guests of Honour for the various lectures marking the millennium-long history of the Asebu Kingdom.

The climax of the festivities will be the Silver Jubilee Durbar on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at the Asebu Durbar Grounds. The event promises a vibrant cultural display, featuring chiefs being carried in palanquins through principal streets before converging for the grand durbar.

Dignitaries expected to grace the occasion include His Royal Majesty Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, Okyehene, and His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, Ga Mantse, alongside other prominent figures.

The Apeyamkese Festival is an annual event commemorating Asebu Amanfi, the legendary giant and first king of the chiefdom. Also known as the “passover,” the festival connects the people to their historical lineage. It is believed that Amanfi’s handprints, footprints, and staff are preserved as heritage sites.

This year’s celebration is poised to be unique, as it converges with the 25th anniversary of Nana Okatakyi Amenfi VII’s leadership, marking a significant milestone in the community’s modern history.
