Ofori Amponsah has revealed that music producers in Accra repeatedly rejected his songs early in his career because they did not believe he could make a commercial breakthrough.
The Ghanaian highlife musician said he travelled to Accra hoping to find producers who would invest in his talent, but instead encountered people who questioned the potential of his music.
Speaking in an interview with Kafui Dey, Ofori Amponsah recalled the difficulty of getting his work accepted when he was still an aspiring musician.
“I came to Accra searching for producers, but they did not believe my songs could work,” he said.
His pursuit of music began while he was still in secondary school. Ofori Amponsah said he started searching for opportunities in Form Four and became more determined to find support during Form Five.
With his cassette recordings in hand, he moved from one place to another after school, hoping to find a producer who would listen to his songs and give him an opportunity.

“I started around Form Four. Nobody was willing to help. I was in Form Five, and after school, I picked up my cassette and went around to search,” he recounted.
The lack of support did not convince him to abandon music. Instead, Ofori Amponsah continued pursuing his ambition despite the repeated setbacks and the doubts surrounding his ability to succeed.
His persistence eventually opened the door to the career he had been working towards. He went on to become one of Ghana’s recognised highlife musicians, recording songs that established him as a prominent name in the genre.
Reflecting on those early years, his experience reflects the difficult path many aspiring musicians face before securing the backing needed to break into Ghana’s competitive music industry.
