Ofori Amponsah has delivered a heartfelt tribute to the late Charles Kwadwo Fosu, better known to fans as Daddy Lumba, crediting the iconic musician with shaping both his personal and professional life in ways he still finds overwhelming.

During a solemn visit to Lumba’s residence to express condolences, the Ghanaian artiste struggled to contain his emotions while recounting the deep bond they shared. He spoke of Lumba not just as a musical mentor, but as a father figure whose guidance transformed his journey in the entertainment world.

“I don’t have much to say. Of course, I had my biological father, but Daddy Lumba was someone who equally played the fatherly role, mentored me. I didn’t deserve this, but when he realised the gift and grace upon my life, he took me in and mentored me,” he said.

Ofori Amponsah recalled how Lumba recognized his potential early on and poured time and wisdom into nurturing that gift. Their relationship went beyond music, becoming a six-year mentorship that helped him navigate the often-unforgiving music industry.

“For six years of friendship and mentorship, he walked me through life, the industry, and everything I needed to know. I remember the first time we met, he told me I had unique grace and I would be just like him. I’m even short of words.”

The duo’s collaborative effort on the Wo Ho Kyere album in 1999 was pivotal, launching Ofori Amponsah into the spotlight and solidifying his place in Ghana’s Highlife scene. Lumba, known for his generosity with younger artists, openly championed Amponsah’s talent, deepening their personal and creative connection.

Reflecting on the painful reality of Lumba’s demise, Amponsah posited, “Sometimes I feel his death is not true, but it’s God who gave him to us, and He has taken him too at the time He feels is right.”

For him, the loss of Daddy Lumba is not just the passing of a legend, but the end of a rare and formative chapter in his life.
