Fosu family lawyers refute Akosua Serwaa’s marriage claim to Lumba

Lawyers representing the Fosu Royal Family of Parkoso and Nsuta have addressed a legal dispute involving Akosua Serwah Fosu, Daddy Lumba’s first wife, concerning the funeral and estate of the late highlife legend.

In a letter dated October 1, 2025, and signed by Fati Ali-Yallah of Baba Jamal & Associates, the legal team stated that it was acting on behalf of the Fosu Family and clarified that Akosua Serwaa had no authority to decide how the family should organise the musician’s funeral.

The letter explained that although Akosua Serwah was once married to Daddy Lumba, she refused to return to Ghana with him when he fell seriously ill about 15 years ago.

According to the lawyers, this amounted to desertion under Akan customary practice.

They further noted that she later presented traditional drinks to signify the end of the marriage.

The family’s lawyers also affirmed that the Fosu Royal Family recognizes Priscilla Ofori, known publicly as Odo Broni, as Daddy Lumba’s legitimate wife.

“Our client informs us that Priscilla Ofori (a.k.a Odo Broni) is married to the late Daddy Lumba and was the woman who lived with him through thick and thin and were blessed with six (6) children for over fifteen (15) years they lived together till his final day on earth. Suffice it to say that, when your client deserted the late Daddy Lumba, Odo Broni was there for him. It is therefore our clear instructions to state that, Odo Broni is a recognized wife of the late Daddy Lumba and same is recognized by the Fosu Royal family,” the statement read.

On the issue of the musician’s estate, the lawyers clarified that all assets belonging to Daddy Lumba form part of his estate and will be managed jointly by the family and his children to ensure fair and transparent distribution.

They urged all parties to refrain from interfering with the properties until the process is legally completed.

The law firm also revealed that they hold some instructions left by Daddy Lumba before his passing, which will serve as a guide to the family regarding his preferred funeral arrangements and the management of his estate.

“As the last lawyers of the late Daddy Lumba before his demise, we have in our custody some instructions from the late Daddy Lumba which serves as a guide to the family as to how he wants his funeral and burial to be conducted as well as the distribution of his estate,” the letter added.

The Fosu Royal Family, through their lawyers, called for calm among all parties and appealed to Akosua Serwah Fosuh to engage in peaceful dialogue to ensure a dignified and befitting burial for the late music legend.

Meanwhile, Akosua Serwah Fosuh has filed a lawsuit at the Kumasi High Court seeking to be declared the sole surviving spouse of Daddy Lumba.

She is also asking the court to grant her exclusive rights to perform the widowhood and funeral rites of the late musician.

Daddy Lumba passed away on July 26, 2025, at the Bank Hospital in Accra.

His final burial rites are scheduled to take place on December 6, 2025, in Kumasi.
