William Kusi, the lawyer representing Akosua Serwaa, wife of the late Daddy Lumba, has disclosed that the musician’s partner, Odo Broni, has filed a counterclaim in court seeking a declaration that the musician divorced Akosua Serwaa before his death.
In an interview on Top Radio’s Final Point show, lawyer William Kusi explained that Odo Broni’s counterclaim seeks a declaration that Daddy Lumba had divorced Akosua Serwaa before his death, and also that Odo Broni should be recognised as the late singer’s wife.
“She (Odo Broni) has now opened her defence in court and filed a counterclaim asking the court to declare that Daddy Lumba divorced Akosua Serwaa. She also wants the court to recognise her as Daddy Lumba’s legal wife,” William Kusi said.

The lawyer further clarified reports that the counterclaim was filed in Accra, explaining that both the defence and counterclaim were submitted at the Kumasi High Court, where the main case is being heard.
Akosua Serwaa’s lawyer also addressed confusion over who has the right to view the late musician’s body at the mortuary.
He said the court made it clear that only the person who took the body to the mortuary has the legal right to view it. Others may only be allowed access if they have legal authorisation.
He added that even Daddy Lumba’s sisters are not permitted to see the body in the mortuary.
“The judge ruled that only the person who took the body to the mortuary has the right to view it. Anyone with legal authority can also do so. But you know his sisters are upset about that. Imagine if your brother passed away and you came from abroad but couldn’t see the body, that would be a serious issue,” he noted.
On October 28, 2025, the Kumasi High Court dismissed an injunction application filed by Akosua Serwaa.
She had sought to stop Lumba’s family head, Kofi Owusu Banahene; Lumba’s partner, Odo Broni; and Transitions Funeral Homes from proceeding with the funeral arrangements.
The judge, Dorinda Smith Arthur, dismissed the application and ruled in favour of the family head, granting him the authority to go ahead with the funeral as originally planned.
The court further instructed both parties to file all necessary legal documents by October 31, 2025, ahead of a Case Management Conference scheduled for November 14, 2025.
