Obuobia Darko-Opoku is new Acting Deputy Managing Director of GACL

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has officially introduced Madam Obuobia Darko-Opoku as its new Acting Deputy Managing Director.

The announcement was made at a durbar held at the GACL premises, where Madam Darko-Opoku was warmly received by the staff.

In a statement issued on April 2, 2025, the GACL noted that Managing Director of GACL, Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, presided over the event and extended a heartfelt welcome to the new appointee.

During her remarks, Mrs. Opare congratulated Madam Darko-Opoku on her appointment and expressed confidence in her ability to complement the existing expertise within the company.

She highlighted the hardworking and dedicated staff at GACL and reassured everyone that they are ready to support the company’s growth and aspirations under the new leadership.

Mrs. Opare emphasised that Darko-Opoku’s arrival would be a valuable asset to the continued success of the organization.

In response, Obuobia Darko-Opoku conveyed her appreciation for the warm reception and expressed her excitement about joining the team.

She emphasised the importance of open communication, teamwork, and a collaborative approach to achieving success.

Darko-Opoku assured the staff that she views her role as one of partnership and is eager to learn, grow, and evolve with the organisation.

Darko-Opoku is a highly accomplished executive with vast experience in corporate management, human resource leadership, and strategic communications. She has a proven track record in driving organisational transformation, optimising corporate structures, and improving stakeholder engagement.

Prior to her appointment at GACL by President John Dramani Mahama, she served as the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, where she played a key role in operational oversight, business development, and strategic reforms, significantly enhancing institutional efficiency.

With a solid foundation in Human Resource Management, Darko-Opoku has led high-performing teams, championed talent development initiatives, and implemented corporate policies to enhance organizational excellence.

Her expertise also extends to brand management, public relations, and media strategy, where she has played a vital role in shaping and protecting institutional reputations.

In addition to her corporate achievements, Darko-Opoku is also passionate about empowering young women. She is the founder of the Ignite Youth Empowerment Initiative, which has mentored and inspired hundreds of young women in leadership, career development, and personal growth.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management and advanced master’s degrees in Brands and Communications Management (University of Professional Studies) and Public Relations (Ghana Institute of Journalism).

Currently, she is pursuing a PhD in Marketing, further solidifying her expertise in business strategy and institutional development.
