Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has urged the public not to generalise about Ghana’s second-cycle education based on the sexual misconduct allegations at Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS).
He said the incident should not be used to judge the standards, discipline and performance of senior high schools across the country.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Tuesday, October 27, Mr Iddrisu maintained that secondary education in Ghana continued to uphold discipline and established standards, despite the concerns raised by the allegations.
“Let us not use the Obuasi incident to stereotype. There is everything good and well with secondary education in Ghana; there is discipline, students and teachers are keeping to the rules and standards across the country,” he said.
His comments come amid public concern over allegations of sexual misconduct involving the headmaster of Obuasi SHTS, which have prompted calls for accountability and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the case.
Mr Iddrisu urged the public to assess the wider secondary education sector on its overall performance rather than allowing a single case to shape perceptions of schools nationwide.
