Sammy Anim Addo (L) and NYA boss Osman Ayariga held discussions about the competition

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Osman Ayariga, has expressed his enthusiastic support for the Gbese Mantse Homowo Cup.

He emphasised that the football initiative aligns seamlessly with the NYA’s mission to foster youth development and unity.

During a visit to his office by OneWorld Sports, the organisers of the competition, Ayariga commended the team for harnessing football’s widespread popularity and national appeal to promote unity and development.

He also praised His Royal Majesty Nii Ayi-Bonte II, the Gbese Mantse, for serving as a beacon of unity, cultural preservation, and progress in the capital.

Ayariga believes the match will not only foster unity but also empower the nation’s youth, which is a core objective of the NYA.

He pledged the NYA’s full support for the event’s organization, stating, “On August 17, 2025, we will show up in full force – the Green Army of Ghana will be at the Accra Sports Stadium to lend our voice and presence to this impactful peace initiative.”

For his part, Sammy Anim Addo of OneWorld Sports highlighted the cultural and traditional inspirations behind the event.

He referenced the 2024 Peace Cup, which contributed to a violence-free election season in historically volatile areas such as Odododiodio.

“For the first time, there was not a single incident of bloodshed, partly due to the influence of the Peace Cup. Both parliamentary candidates pledged peace at the Gbese Palace, and it made a tangible difference,” Anim Addo noted.

The 2025 Homowo Peace Cup will feature a match between Accra Hearts of Oak and Kpando Heart of Lions at the Accra Sports Stadium on August 17.
