The Management of the National Sports Authority (NSA) has announced that constructive engagements have been held with the Minister responsible for Sports and Recreation to address concerns surrounding the employment status of 17 officers of the Authority.

In an official statement, the NSA indicated that the discussions were cordial, open and solution-driven, focusing on recent public commentary that had created uncertainty about the officers’ status. The talks, according to Management, reaffirmed a shared commitment to due process, institutional stability and administrative clarity.

It was agreed that the affected officers—who have reportedly served for more than 11 months without salary—will reapply for their positions in accordance with established public service procedures. With a duly constituted Governing Board now in place, following 10 months of the new management team’s tenure, steps will subsequently be taken to regularise their employment in line with applicable regulations.

Management described the agreed pathway as one that respects governance processes while ensuring fairness, continuity and recognition of the officers’ dedicated service to the Authority.

The NSA also addressed the public discourse surrounding the matter, noting that varying interpretations had emerged. The Authority urged stakeholders to rely on verified communication from official channels and avoid speculation that could undermine confidence in the institution.

The Authority emphasized that it remains fully operational and focused on its core mandate of sports development nationwide.

Management and the Governing Board, under the supervision of the Sports Minister, will continue to collaborate with the Ministry to strengthen institutional systems, improve operational efficiency and advance strategic partnerships.

Additionally, the Minister has indicated that where policy direction is required to enable the NSA to absorb critical staff and address its current personnel shortfall of over 400 employees, consultations will be held with the Ministry of Finance to ensure sustainable and compliant solutions.

The NSA reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, continuity of operations and maintaining the trust of its corporate, diplomatic and development partners.
