MADAM Christiana Ashley has been appointed the President of the Ghana Chess Association (GCA), polling a remarkable 83.2 per cent of the total votes cast at its elective congress.

The exercise had nine key positions up for grabs, setting the stage for a decisive and highly anticipated showdown. Madam Ashley’s victory on Saturday did not only reflect the trust delegates had in her leadership and vision but also signaled a renewed sense of ambition and strategic direction for the future of chess.

Having served as General Secretary and Vice President of the Ghana Chess Association, the newly-elected President steps into the presidency armed with a wealth of experience.

Speaking in an interview with the GNA Sport, she expressed profound gratitude to delegates for the overwhelming endorsement, promising a results-driven leadership. She further noted that her vision was to position Ghana as a formidable force in African chess, while building a sustainable system that nurtures young prodigies into world-class competitors.

The Sports Administrator again stressed her determination to expand grassroots chess programmes in schools and communities, strengthen regional structures, and create more competitive platforms for emerging talents. Moreover, Madam Ashley further emphasised unity within the chess fraternity, calling on stakeholders, corporate bodies, and development partners to rally behind a shared vision.

Other members of the new executives were:

    • Ayiku Angela Naa Amerley – Vice President (Administration)
    • Fomevor Clinton Cephas – Vice President (Technical)
    • Kporxah Maxwell Kwasi – General Secretary
    • Mills-Pappoe Benjamin Adoayi – Financial Secretary
    • Dzima Betty – Treasurer
    • Acheampong George Koomson – Organising Secretary
    • Anhwere Bernard – Players’ Representative
    • Benson Maud – Youth Coordinator
