The Life Patron of Okwahu United, Daasebre Boateng Ill, has clarified that the decision by the National Sports Authority (NSA) to halt ongoing works at the Nkawkaw Sports Stadium was not taken out of malice or ill intent against Dr Bryan Acheampong, who has been at the forefront of the facility’s reconstruction.

The stadium, which had been left in a state of neglect for several years, began receiving major attention after Dr Acheampong, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer aspirant and a leading figure in the Kwahu area, took the initiative to spearhead its redevelopment.

However, reports recently emerged that the NSA had ordered a temporary stop to the construction works, sparking public debate and speculation about the motives behind the move.

In an interview with GhanaWeb, Daasebre Boateng Ill explained that after engaging the NSA boss, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, it became clear that the directive to pause the project was purely procedural and not driven by any personal or political agenda.

Bryan Acheampong has done his bit. While the work was progressing, he had information that the National Sports Authority had stopped his work. Now, from Yaw’s meeting with him, these are all procedural things that happened. It wasn’t like Yaw just went to say ‘stop work’. He just said we need some documentation for him to understand,” Daasebre said.

He further revealed that the NSA boss has since given his assurance of full cooperation to ensure the continuation of the project once all administrative processes are completed.

“He has assured us of his cooperation, and we have assured him that, as a traditional authority, we shall play the role of mediator to make sure there’s an agreement on the Nkawkaw Stadium’s construction, whether partial or full,” Daasebre added.

The clarification comes as a relief to many residents and football fans in Nkawkaw, who had expressed concern that bureaucratic or political interference might derail the long-awaited renovation of the stadium.

The Nkawkaw Sports Stadium, once a vibrant hub for football and athletics in the Eastern Region, is expected to play a key role in reviving sporting activities in the area once reconstruction is complete.
