The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has firmly rejected the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to re-run the parliamentary elections in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency.

Addressing the media at the party’s headquarters on Thursday, July 3, the General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, described the commission’s move as “shocking, disingenuous and unlawful.”

According to him, the party had been informed of the EC’s decision through a statement signed by Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations, issued on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.

The EC justified its action by citing discrepancies in the results used for collation.

It stated that the pink sheets from the 19 polling stations were either not signed by the presiding officers, signed by persons acting in multiple capacities, or lacked proper verification.

However, the NPP dismissed these claims, insisting that no substantial irregularities occurred in those polling stations to warrant a rerun.

He emphasised that during a meeting held on July 1 between EC officials and representatives from both the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), there was no consensus that justified a rerun.

“Our representatives, in the persons of Evans Nimako, our Director of Research and Elections, and Ebenezer Nartey, former Member of Parliament for Ablekuma Central, representing our party, vehemently opposed the position of the Electoral Commission,” he said.

He further expressed disappointment over what he described as a “sudden U-turn” by the Electoral Commission on the Ablekuma North election stalemate.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the New Patriotic Party finds the Electoral Commission’s sudden U-turn on the Ablekuma North situation not only shocking but also disingenuous and unlawful,” he added.

The party has called on the EC to immediately rescind the decision and adhere to the High Court’s decision to collate the 3 outstanding polling stations results.
