    NPP delegates rate Bawumia as best candidate with the requisite leadership qualities

    A new survey on the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary has revealed who among the five contenders is viewed by NPP delegates as possessing the required leadership qualities to lead the party.

    According to Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Ghana, which released findings on its latest survey on the NPP election, 69.7% of NPP delegates believed that former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, possessed the requisite leadership qualities to lead among the five contestants.

    Among NPP delegates interviewed, 69.7% believed Dr Bawumia was the one with the best leadership qualities while 22.5% said Kennedy Agyapong. Dr Bryan Acheampong followed with 6.0%, while the rest Dr Osei Yaw Adutwun and Kwabena Adjei Agyapong recorded 1% each.

    Among non-delegates, that is the general population, 52.9% believed Dr Bawumia possessed the best leadership qualities, 31.2% said Kennedy Agyapong, Dr Bryan Acheampong polled 7.9%, while the others popped “small single digits.”

    In the main survey, which asked NPP delegates their preferred candidate to lead the party in 2028, Dr Bawumia emerged the clear favourite with a 67.8% lead.

    At second place was Kennedy Agyapong, who polled 21.3%, followed by Dr. Bryan Acheampong with 6.6%. The rest – Dr Osei Yaw Adutwum and Kwabena Adjei Agyapong each had less than 5%.

    Demographic

    The survey, according to Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Ghana, included responses of over 5000 NPP delegates and more than 13.000 citizens (non-delegates), which they said, “reflects a highly inclusive and diverse national sample with strong representation across all age groups” with “core ages between 26–55, across urban, peri-urban, and rural areas (41% rural).

    The demographics also included different educational and employment

    backgrounds, religions (Christian 74%, Muslim 22%) and across all ethnic groups.

    “These demographics ensure that the results reflect the views of a wide cross-section of Ghanaian society,” the report added.
