A total of 41 out of 47 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Chairmen in the Ashanti Region have issued a strongly worded statement raising alarm over what they describe as actions that threaten the peace, unity, and orderly conduct of internal party activities.

According to the chairmen, the region has over the past week hosted an officially sanctioned campaign tour by former Second Lady, Hajia Samira Bawumia, which was approved by the NPP Regional Executive Committee and scheduled to end on November 26. They noted that the tour had been progressing smoothly and without incident—until the emergence of a parallel campaign event.

The chairmen allege that Hon. Irene Naa Torshie, a prominent figure in the Kennedy Agyapong campaign team, has initiated an unsanctioned tour across the region during the same period. They described the move as “inappropriate, disruptive, and inconsistent with the party’s established campaign protocols.”

In their statement, the chairmen accused Hon. Naa Torshie of deliberately choosing dates that clash with Hajia Samira Bawumia’s approved itinerary, suggesting the action appeared calculated to create confusion and unnecessary tension among party supporters.

The development reportedly compelled Hajia Samira Bawumia to temporarily suspend her activities to avoid potential confrontation. The chairmen commended her restraint and decorum, noting that her conduct reflected a deep commitment to the unity and stability of the party.

They questioned the rationale behind Hon. Naa Torshie’s actions, especially when “several other regions remain open for campaign activities.” They urged her and the Kennedy Agyapong campaign machinery to refrain from what they termed “acts of indiscipline” that could destabilise the Ashanti Region, widely regarded as the stronghold and heartbeat of the NPP.

The chairmen further called on the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Regional Executive Committee (REC) to immediately investigate the matter and enforce strict compliance with internal campaign guidelines to prevent similar occurrences going forward.

They concluded by assuring party faithful of their unwavering dedication to ensuring a peaceful, orderly, and respectful internal election process, urging supporters to remain calm as leadership addresses the issue.
