Ghanaian rapper Michael Owusu Addo, popularly known as Sarkodie, has urged young musicians not to chase instant validation but instead focus on creating good music and staying consistent.

Sarkodie acknowledged the pressure that comes with how the music industry is fast-paced in today’s world, particularly the obsession with immediate feedback on social media but encouraged up-and-coming musicians to resist the temptation to measure their worth based on short-term hype online.

“Quick one: to all up-and-coming musicians… this era is a bit crazy because you feed off instant feedback to assess your career but that ain’t realistic and I know it’s almost impossible to do otherwise but you have to try,” he wrote on his X page.

He further emphasised the importance of perseverance and staying grounded, saying, “Just keep your head under the water and keep going.”

Sarkodie, who is known for his longevity and impact in the Ghanaian music industry, pointed out to the young artistes that not every song needs to top charts or dominate airwaves to be considered successful record.

Instead, he advised young artistes to focus on creating meaningful music for their core audience and to find joy in the creative process.

“Most importantly, make sure you enjoy your art. Not every song will be huge on the airwaves but that means nothing. Just make good art for your core audience and stay consistent!” he added.
