Nigerian stand-up comedian and actor, Okey Bakassi Nigerian stand-up comedian and actor, Okey Bakassi

Nigerian actor and stand-up comedian Okey Bakassi recently stirred up conversations on relationships during his guest appearance on the Honest Brunch podcast.

Bakassi provided more than just laughs, offering advice that has resonated with many listeners looking for genuine insights into healthy relationships.

One of Bakassi’s key points focused on the importance of mutual growth in relationships. “It’s not just about love,” he explained. “It’s about growing together, building each other up.

“You both need to nurture each other’s strengths and weaknesses.” This philosophy, according to Bakassi, is crucial for a lasting and fulfilling partnership.

As relationships evolve, Bakassi stressed that both partners must be willing to support one another’s personal and professional growth.

“If one person is growing and the other is stagnant, there’s going to be friction,” he said. “It’s about building a future together, not just coasting along because it’s comfortable.”

However, Bakassi also offered a word of caution to individuals in relationships, urging them not to ignore red flags early on. He pointed out that many people are quick to dismiss concerning behaviours or personality traits in a partner, only to regret it later.

“Don’t turn a blind eye to the little signs, because those little things tend to become big problems later on,” he said. “If you see something that bothers you, speak up. Don’t wait until you’re in too deep to realize it’s a problem.”

In a world where physical attraction often takes center stage in relationships, Bakassi highlighted another important aspect: the importance of intellectual compatibility.

“A lot of men, especially, are drawn to a woman’s looks. But it’s not enough,” Bakasi explained, getting serious. “Attractiveness may catch your attention, but it’s the intellect that keeps a relationship strong.”

He elaborated on the complex dynamics between men and women, noting that attractive women tend to attract specific types of men, often ones who are primarily interested in their physical appearance.

“It’s a cycle,” he said. “Some men see a beautiful woman and assume she’ll be a perfect partner just because of how she looks. But that’s not always the case.

“Not every beautiful woman is right for every man. Looks fade, but intellect and emotional compatibility are what keep a relationship going long-term.”
