Minister of Foreign Affiars, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa Minister of Foreign Affiars, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, has reassured Ghanaians that the government has not heard from the US in a formal manner about rumors that Ghana would be placed on a new list of countries that are prohibited from traveling to the US.

His remarks follow a June 14, 2025, statement by U.S. President Donald Trump that said his administration is thinking about limiting access to nationals of 36 other nations, including Ghana.

The Washington Post claims to have reviewed a U.S. State Department paper that indicates the action is being contemplated as a component of a larger immigration enforcement plan.

Mr Ablakwa speaking in Parliament on Thursday June 19, 2025

emphasized that there is now “no cause for alarm” because Ghana has not received any official communication from U.S. officials.

“Ghana has not been officially notified that we are going to be placed on any prohibition list or on any ban where our citizens cannot travel to the U.S.,” he stated.

Additionally, the Minister revealed that the Foreign Affairs Ministry has consulted with pertinent U.S. officials to obtain explanation.

“I have asked that we be assured that those leaks do not carry merit. So far, I can tell the people of Ghana that there is no cause for alarm,” he assured.
