District Chief Executive (DCE) for Awutu Senya West, Kalala Nyamekye, has debunked claims that a student has died following a violent clash during an inter-school athletics competition in Agona Swedru.
In an interview with Adom News on Monday, February 23, 2026, Nyamekye urged the public to disregard the reports of death circulating in the media, stating that they are untrue.
“Contrary to the rumours making rounds, no student has died,” he stressed.
The incident occurred during an athletics competition between Obrachire Senior High Technical School (OSTECH) and Swedru School of Business students, which reportedly turned violent.
Nyamekye confirmed that three students from OSTECH sustained injuries during the clash and are currently receiving medical treatment.

He stated that one of the injured students was taken to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital after sustaining suspected internal injuries.
“Three OSTECH students were injured. One of them was admitted to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital for internal bleeding, but there has been no fatality,” he said.
The DCE also indicated that arrests have been made in connection with the disturbance, although the Regional Police Command has not yet officially released details.
“Investigations into the clash are ongoing as authorities work to restore order and ensure the safety of students during competitions,” Nyamekye added.
Education and community leaders are appealing for calm and urging students and parents to allow the authorities to complete their investigations.
