Black Sherif’s management says it’s done compromising standards for local event organisers following a chaotic scene at the Unifest concert in Takoradi on June 21, 2025. The incident, which saw angry fans hurl bottles and sachet water at the rapper during his performance, has prompted a policy shift within his team.

During an interview with GhanaWeb’s Joseph Jenry Mensah, the artiste’s Public Relations Officer, Kingsley, explained that tensions between Black Sherif’s camp and the organisers led to a delayed stage appearance, one that ultimately sparked frustration among the crowd.

The team, he revealed, had previously tried to accommodate Ghanaian promoters out of goodwill, but those gestures have rarely been reciprocated with professionalism.

“We will not be merciful to anyone again in the name of you being a Ghanaian,” Kingsley said. “We have been lenient enough knowing that these are our people, but the more you bring the bar of professionalism down a little bit, that’s when they start misbehaving.”

According to Kingsley, the Takoradi event was not an isolated case. He recalled several past instances where Ghanaian promoters failed to follow proper procedures, yet shifted the blame onto the artiste when problems emerged.

“So now we will uphold the standard of professionalism we operate with across the world, which would be the same standard we will uphold here in Ghana because our promoters here don’t learn. And this is not the first time this has happened to us or any other Ghanaian artiste,” he said.

The PRO further lamented how event organisers often manipulate public perception to escape scrutiny, knowing the court of public opinion tends to target musicians first.

“It is, has become a behavioural pattern that people just operate anyhow and now after everything they would just swing the blame on the part of the artiste and the court of public opinion will now castigate their sanctions on the part of the artiste,” Kingsley noted.
