The Gbese District Court in Accra on Wednesday, February 25, ordered that he be held in police custody following his re-arrest by the Narcotics Control Commission. He is expected to remain in detention while extradition proceedings to the United States continue.

The court has reportedly set March 18, 2026, as the date for the next hearing in the matter.

Abu Trica’s return to custody comes after the same court previously discharged him and his co-accused in connection with an indictment filed by U.S. authorities. Prosecutors in the United States allege that the group orchestrated an $8 million romance scam that preyed on elderly Americans.

The case, which attracted attention beyond Ghana’s borders, revolves around accusations that the suspects used online platforms to execute fraudulent schemes.

The court did not disclose the specific grounds for his latest arrest, but he will remain in custody until he reappears before the bench next month.
