Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup suffered a setback after Zimbabwe scored a last-minute equalizer in Uyo, leaving the Super Eagles trailing in Group C.
Victor Osimhen’s diving header had put Nigeria on course for victory, but Huddersfield Town’s on-loan forward Tawanda Chirewa struck in the 90th minute to snatch a 1-1 draw.
With four matches played in the 10-game qualifying campaign, Nigeria now sits six points behind leaders South Africa, who secured a 2-0 win over Benin. The Super Eagles, currently fourth in the group, are one point behind Rwanda and Benin.
Only the group winners will qualify automatically for the 2026 World Cup, while the four best second-placed teams will enter a playoff for a final intercontinental tournament spot.
