Nigerian actress and filmmaker Ufuoma McDermott has opened up about her ongoing struggle with Kidney disease which reached a critical point last year.

The veteran actress and mother of two revealed in a video that she had been battling with Stage 3 Kidney disease for the past 12 years.

She also disclosed that after years of struggle, the disease reached a critical point last year as it progressed from Stage 3 to Stage 4.

She attributed the deterioration of her condition to the excessive use of painkillers and other such drugs, which had severely impacted her health and left lasting damage to her Kidneys.

Delays in treatment during the last decade of living with the disease also contributed to her situation. Learning about the advancement of the disease has been quite hard for her and her family.

The disease has had major effects on her career and family. Apart from the impact the disease has had on her physical health, it has also adversely affected her mental health causing her emotional distress from dealing with all that is going on in her life.

Along with this shocking revelation, she also revealed her decision to live abroad with her family so that she could better focus on her health and her family. This move however will not stop her from continuing her work in Nigeria, as she intends to balance both public and private aspects of her life.
