Spain international of Ghanaian descent Nico Williams is reportedly reconsidering his long-term future at Athletic Bilbao, just months after committing to a contract extension that runs until 2035.

The 23-year-old winger opted to remain at San Mamés despite strong interest from FC Barcelona, a decision initially viewed as a bold show of loyalty. However, recent developments — including the club’s transfer restrictions — are said to have raised concerns about Bilbao’s short- and long-term ambitions.

Reports indicate that Williams is unsettled, with his frustration beginning to impact his performances and dressing room morale. He has made 26 appearances this season, scoring four goals and providing six assists, but Bilbao currently sit 10th in La Liga with 28 points.

Nico Williams, brother to Black Stars striker Inaki Williams, rose to prominence after playing a key role in UEFA Euro 2024 success with Spain and helping Bilbao lift the Copa del Rey last season, ending a 40-year trophy drought.
