The NFL has reportedly informed team that the 2026 salary cap will come in at just over $300million, setting the stage for a wild offseason.

The final figure is still being adjusted but is believed to be in the region of $301.2m to $305.7m, according to NFL reporter Tom Pelissero. That would be a jump of over $20m from the 2025 total of $279.2m if those numbers hold up.

The knock-on impact on team spending cannot be underestimated as organizations work tireless to construct their 53-man rosters for 2026, even with the current season not over.

For example, Travis Kelce has said publicly and behind-closed-doors to the Kansas City Chiefs that he would potentially consider not playing on if the team needed cap space to rebuild.

The Chiefs had the least leeway of all the 32 teams and they are still projected to come in over the cap as it stands, so Kelce’s impact on available money remains very real.

But such a dramatic rise in available cash ill certainly help the Chiefs clear the path for him to return for another season, if that’s what he wants to do.

The NFL’s next salary cap will play a part in what Travis Kelce decides to do next

Teams with the most cap space are Tennessee Titans, Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers and, perhaps ominously for the rest of the league, Super Bowl favorites Seattle Seahawks.

Just four years ago in 2022, the NFL salary cap tipped over the $200m mark for the first time.

A rise into the $300m mark shows just how much business has boomed for the game in recent seasons.
