Thrash metal icon Joey Belladonna left fans covering their ears ahead of Monday Night Football after his ‘horrible rendition’ of the national anthem.
The Anthrax lead singer took the field ahead of the Seattle Seahawks‘ showdown against the Chicago Bears, but his moment of patriotism didn’t go down well with many fans watching at home.
On social media, viewers tore into the music legend, 66, claiming he ‘screamed’ the Star-Spangled Banner and performed it ‘in every key.’
One X user wrote: ‘Worst national anthem of the year,’ while another added: ‘Whoever just sung that national anthem gotta chill Unc.’
A third claimed: ‘Dude who sang the National Anthem sounded like Mark Wahlberg in Rockstar. That’s not a compliment.’
Some disagreed though, fighting back against the negative criticism to hail his distinctive voice.
One said: ‘Freaking Joey Belladonna just sang the anthem for the BEARS game, he nailed it.’
Another, meanwhile, wrote: ‘Now THAT is how you sing the National Anthem!!’
