The National Film Authority (NFA) has hosted a successful National Film Dialogue in Accra.

The star-studded event, which took place at the Cedi Conference Centre in Legon on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, served as a platform for industry leaders to share solutions for advancing Ghana’s film sector.

Under the theme “Accelerating Industry Development,” the maiden event was attended by dignitaries and prominent actors, including the Deputy Creative Arts Minister, Yussif Issaka Jajah, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, Director of Diaspora Affairs Kofi Okyere Darko, Fred Amugi, Roselyn Ngissah, Nicki Samonas, Bill Asamoah and Martha Ankomah.

Eloquently emceed by Chris Attoh, Princess Nkrumah and Dr. Bismark Odum-Sackey, the dialogue brought together filmmakers, producers, and industry experts for in-depth discussions on filmmaking, financing, marketing, content creation and the use of technology to remain competitive in the global market.

Speaking to the media, the Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority Kafui Danku-Pitcher stressed on the need for inclusive decision-making in policy development.

She announced that the NFA plans to introduce training programs focused on storytelling, sound design, and visual production, in partnership with global experts.

While Ghana’s film industry has seen growth, it continues to face major challenges, including limited funding, inadequate training, and stiff competition from global content.

Kafui Danku also announced that the Ghana Academy of Film and Television Arts (GAFTA) had donated GH¢100,000 toward a long-proposed film fund.

She described the donation as a “wake-up call” for others to support the initiative.

Participants also discussed how modern technology can improve both production and marketing, ensuring Ghanaian films are competitive internationally.

Calls were made for stronger regulation to maintain quality standards, and concerns were raised over inconsistent storytelling and outdated production methods.
