Emergency services were called to Wagga Beach at Cadell Place, in Wagga Wagga, in regional NSW, at 4.20pm on Saturday following reports of a concern for welfare.

A 37-year-old woman was found along with the body of a baby and a second one still alive.

The woman and surviving baby were treated by paramedics and rushed to Wagga Base Hospital.

The baby is in a critical condition.

A crime scene has been established and an investigation launched into the matter.

The beach is located along the Murrumbidgee River in the city centre.
