The New York Mets have finally ended their historic losing streak after earning their first win in 13 games on Wednesday night.

New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani can breathe a sigh of relief following the Mets’ much-needed victory over the Minnesota Twins, which brought the ‘curse’ fans believe he had inflicted on them to a close.

Following his visit to Citi Field earlier this month, when he was filmed embracing mascots Mr. and Mrs. Met, the struggling MLB team endured one of their worst-ever losing runs after going 0-12.

Yet 13 proved lucky for the Mets on Wednesday night, when they finally ended that skid and Mamdani’s curse by snatching a 3-2 win over the Twins in Queens.

Mark Vientos drove in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning, before pitcher Luke Weaver closed it out in the ninth to seal the victory.

Juan Soto finally made his long-awaited return for the Mets after missing the last 15 games – and the team’s disastrous skid – with a calf injury, but he endured a disappointing first game back.

Before Vientos’ winning run, Soto was picked off first base in the eighth inning, with the $765million slugger seen looking despondent as he trudged back to the dugout.

In the end, though, his return coincided with the Mets bringing their nightmare 0-12 run to an end at long last. It was the team’s longest losing streak since August 2002.

Nevertheless, as one superstar returned for the Mets in Soto, another left Wednesday’s game early with an injury of their own.

Shortstop Francisco Lindor was removed with calf tightness after laboring around the bases while scoring from first on Francisco Alvarez’s go-ahead double in the fourth, coming as one of the only negatives on an otherwise memorable night for the hosts.

Byron Buxton tied it 2-all with a leadoff homer in the sixth against Clay Holmes, his second longball in two nights.

Brett Baty, who came off the bench to replace Lindor in the lineup, drew his second walk of the game with two outs in the eighth against Taylor Rogers (0-1).

Alvarez then coaxed a nine-pitch walk from Justin Topa before Vientos dumped an RBI single into shallow right field. Vientos had blatantly ran through a stop sign rounding third and was easily thrown out at home plate for the final out of the sixth.

Weaver (2-0) retired Luke Keaschall with the bases loaded to end the top of the eighth and struck out three batters in a one-hit ninth to secure New York’s first victory since April 7 at home against Arizona.

Connor Prielipp, the Twins’ top pitching prospect, needed 82 pitches to get through four innings in his major league debut. But the 25-year-old left-hander showcased a good slider and limited a slumping New York lineup to two runs and four hits with six strikeouts and no walks.

Holmes allowed two runs and five hits in seven innings.

Batting cleanup, Lindor drove in a run by legging out an infield single with two outs in the first and Victor Caratini’s sacrifice fly tied the score in the fourth.

All-Star right-hander Joe Ryan (2-2, 3.29 ERA) pitches Thursday night for Minnesota in the series finale against RHP Christian Scott, who will be called up from Triple-A Syracuse to make his first major league start since Tommy John surgery in 2024.
