Ashanti Regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako Ashanti Regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako

Ashanti Regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known popularly as Chairman Wontumi, has described claims by the opposition National Democratic Congress that the NPP intends to rig the 2024 elections as infantile.

Chairman Wontumi believes the allegations are a preemptive excuse for their impending defeat in the 2024 elections.

He observed that John Dramani Mahama has visited only 65 constituencies with just a few days remaining until the 2024 elections. This, he believes, indicates Mahama’s awareness of his impending defeat, prompting him to preemptively shift blame onto the hard-working New Patriotic Party.

Chairman Wontumi also took the opportunity to urge security agencies to remain vigilant regarding alleged NDC thugs reportedly being trained by retired police officer Kofi Boakye to incite violence in the Ashanti Region during the 2024 elections.

It is worth recalling that the Communications Officer of the opposition NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, alleged at a press conference that the NPP is training hoodlums to be disguised in military uniforms with the intent to incite violence and facilitate election rigging in favor of the NPP.

    Read his statement below:

I have taken notice of a wild claim by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to the effect that Brigadier General Michael Opoku, General Officer Commanding Central Command of the Ghana Armed Forces, has been tasked by President Akufo-Addo to execute an election-rigging scheme in the Ashanti Region ahead of the 2024 polls.

As Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) I want to put forward that the statement by the NDC’s National Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi, was infantile and deserves to be dumped in a latrine.

The NDC per my observation in the Ashanti region are not campaigning vigorously but instead, are sitting in the comfort of their homes and offices developing strategies to blame the NPP for election rigging.

The NPP is working tirelessly, campaigning as if we were in opposition, while the NDC’s efforts have been lacklustre.

The NPP’s rigorous campaign efforts are evident in Dr. Bawumia’s extensive tour of constituencies, having visited nearly all 276, whereas Mahama has only toured 65.

Dr. Bawumia is left with only two constituencies to finish touring the entire 276 constituencies of the country.

However, as we speak, Mahama has only toured 65 constituencies with only 18 days more to the general election.

I believe the NDC’s allegations of election rigging are a preemptive excuse for their impending loss.

We have really campaigned and we continue to campaign as though we are in opposition.

    NPP has really worked hard.

Take a look at the numerous interventions and social policies we have implemented including Free SHS, Agenda 111, the restoration of the teacher and nursing trainee allowances which the NDC cancelled.

These are all evident that the NPP is winning this election and we don’t need any army officer to rig the election in our favor.

We however need the police and army to put to check headless NDC members who are training under the supervision of retired Commissioner of Police, Kofi Boakye to create violence.
