Defending NBA Slam Dunk champion Mac McClung showed his incredible leaping ability to secure his third straight victory in the competition.
The 26-year-old sealed the three-peat by jumping over a vehicle in the second round of the event.
McClung went up against Matas Buzelis of the Chicago Bulls, Stephon Castle of the San Antonio Spurs, and Andre Jackson Jr. of the Milwaukee Bucks.
The G League MVP with the Osceola Magic scored a perfect 50 in the first round by leaping over a person for a 180 slam. McClung showed off his hang time and stuck the landing on his first attempt.
Buzelis, Castle, and Jackson scored 47.2, 40, and 43.8, respectively. They then scored 47.4, 45, and 47.8 in the second round before McClung put the nail in the coffin.
McClung leaped over a Kia Sedan to secure another perfect round and close out the show.
Orlando Magic star Mac McClung jumped over a car to win his third straight dunk contest
Although his foot got caught on the nose of the vehicle on his way down, the dunk was completed nonetheless and the judges gave him tens across the board.
Many compared the dunk to Blake Griffin’s iconic slam from the 2011 contest. However, the Clippers legend jumped over the hood while McClung hurdled over the parallel parked car completely.
‘I had a lot of help,’ McClung said after being crowned. ‘People were opening gyms to fit a car in, people were letting me use their car, I’m just really grateful right now.’
‘This might be it for me but we’ll see,’ he added when asked about defending his title. ‘If they want me back bad enough, I’ll think about it.’
McClung joins Nate Robinson as the only player to win the dunk contest three times. However, McClung is the only one to do so consecutively.
