On March 6, 2025, Ghana marked its 68th Independence Day under the theme: “Reflect, Review, and Reset.” In the Navrongo Central Constituency, the celebration featured a ceremonial parade of students and teachers at Kologo Park in the Kassena-Nankana District.

A key highlight was an awards ceremony for participants of the MP’s Independence Day Essay Competition, designed for Junior High School (JHS) and Senior High School (SHS) students.

This initiative by the member of parliament, Hon. Simon Akibange Aworigo aimed at fostering creativity, critical thinking, and awareness of pressing social issues among the youth while celebrating Ghana’s independence.

Hon. Simon Akibange Aworigo (MP, Navrongo Central) applauded the Winners and the staff of their respective schools for participating in the competition and pledged to make it an annual event. He emphasized his commitment to empowering the youth through education, job creation, and community development. Echoing the theme of this year’s celebration (Reflect, Review, and Reset) and Kwame Nkrumah’s words:

“The independence of Ghana is meaningless unless it is linked up with the total liberation of the African continent.”, he urged participants to eschew selfishness and embrace hard work, integrity and selflessness towards building the Navrongo we all want.

The Paramount Chief of the Kologo Traditional Area in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality, Naba Tandegrewangrekugre Asobayire V, applauded Hon. Simon Aworigo for initiating such a program within his first 100 days as MP.

He urged students to take their education seriously and seize opportunities like the MP’s Essay Competition excel in academics, while congratulating the winners.
