Nations FC have been relegated from the Ghana Premier League in heartbreaking fashion despite securing victory on the final day of the 2025/26 season.

The Abrankese-based side defeated Karela United FC 1-0 in Tamale and looked set to complete a great escape, but dramatic results elsewhere denied them survival.

Heading into the decisive round of fixtures, Nations FC were among three clubs battling to avoid the final relegation spot alongside Swedru All Blacks FC and Young Apostles FC.

While Nations FC handled their part of the task with victory away from home, attention quickly shifted to Kumasi where Swedru All Blacks stunned giants Asante Kotoko 2-1 at the Baba Yara Stadium to pull off one of the biggest shocks of the season.

The stunning result ensured Swedru All Blacks climbed to safety with 45 points, leaving Nations FC stuck in 16th position with 44 points despite their victory.

Young Apostles also secured survival after recording an important 2-0 victory over FC Samartex 1996 in Wenchi to finish above the relegation zone.

For Nations FC, the outcome marked a painful end to what had looked like a successful final day after players and supporters celebrated their victory before news filtered through from Kumasi.

The club’s relegation means they now join Hohoe United and Eleven Wonders FC as the three teams dropping out of the Ghana Premier League this season.
