Head coach of Nations FC, Kasim Mingle, recently looked back on his long and inspiring coaching career.

At 67 years old, he has been a significant figure since taking on the role, leading Nations FC to an impressive seventh-place finish in their first season in the Ghana Premier League.

With 36 years of coaching experience, Mingle has achieved many milestones. He holds one of the longest unbeaten home runs in the history of the Ghana Premier League and recently shared his journey into coaching.

In an interview with 3Sports, the veteran coach revealed that, despite his former coach’s encouragement to pursue coaching, he initially had no interest during his playing days.

“When I was playing, my coach at Eleven Wise, the late Coach Kobina, kept telling me to consider coaching after my playing career, but I wasn’t interested. However, I later developed an interest and decided to pursue coaching,” he said.

Mingle’s vast experience includes managing teams in Ghana and abroad. As a good coach, he has played a crucial role in nurturing talents who have excelled.

“I started coaching in 1988 at Vibe Academy, then moved to Division One side Evergreen, where I worked with Mohammed Polo. We had both an academy and a Division One team. From there, I joined Mighty Jets, where I oversaw the juvenile side. That’s where I developed young players like Eric Bekoe (of Asante Kotoko) and many others, promoting most of them to the first team. I later transitioned to working with the first team and continued player development. After that, I moved to Midtjylland, where I began grooming many Black Stars players, including Isaac Vorsah, who became an instrumental figure for the national team,” he explained.

When discussing the coaches who inspired him, Mingle revealed that he draws inspiration from two of Ghana’s most legendary coaches, admiring their tactical depth and coaching philosophies.

“C.K. Gyamfi and Jones Attuquayefio (the legendary coach who led Hearts of Oak to CAF Champions League glory in 2000). C.K. Gyamfi coached me, so I liked his methods and enjoyed the way he coached,” he added.

Under Mingle’s leadership, Nations FC currently holds second place in the Ghana Premier League standings and has also secured qualification for the FA Cup Round of 32.
