Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) vice presidential candidate, has called on Muslim leaders in Ghana to offer prayers and cast large numbers of votes for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. He asserted that this might be the final chance for Muslims to elect a president of their own.

During a meeting with Imams and other Islamic organizations in Kumasi, Dr. Opoku Prempeh said these things.

The creation of the Zongo Development Fund, which has benefited Zongo villages nationwide, is just one of the many contributions the NPP has made to the Zongo communities, he reminded the Muslim leaders.

“The Zongo communities have always been friends with the NPP. With the creation of the Zongo Development Fund, we have delivered, and the outcomes are visible to everyone. Dr. Opoku Prempeh said passionately, “Dr. Bawumia is one of you, and if you don’t support him, this might be the last chance you have to see a Muslim rise to the presidency.”

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) was also chastised by Dr. Opoku Prempeh for allegedly showing disdain for Muslims. He cited the NDC’s blatant disrespect for the Muslim community as seen by the dismissal of two well-known Muslim leaders: former Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu and former Minority Chief Whip Muntaka Mubarak.

“Observe the disdain displayed by the NDC when they ousted reputable Muslim leaders Muntaka Mubarak and Haruna Iddrisu from important roles. He went on to say, “This is a clear message about how the NDC views the Muslim community.” He firmly asked the Muslim leaders to back Dr. Bawumia in the next elections and advised them to consider the NDC’s record. He said, “Since Dr. Bawumia is one of your own, now is the time to stand with him.”
