The 2024 running mate of the New Patriotic Party, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, has delivered a scathing critique of the National Democratic Congress‘s (NDC) performance in government.

According to NAPO, the NDC, after staying in power for eight months, has failed to deliver on its campaign promises, which won the party votes during the 2024 general elections.

Speaking to a section of the media during the one-week observation of the passing of the late Member of Parliament for the Akwatia constituency, Ernest Kumi, NAPO stated that the NDC’s current track record is one of utter failure.

Why Mussa Dankwah is 99% certain the NDC will win Akwatia by-election

According to NAPO, NDC’s performance in its first eight months in office has been marred by unprecedented failures, alleging that every single promise the party made to the electorate remains unfulfilled.

He said, “Every single thing that the NDC promised, they have failed. I haven’t seen any government that can fail on all its promises within 8 months. The first of its kind is the NDC.”

NAPO’s comments come at a time when the ruling NDC and the opposition NPP are seeking to regain the Akwatia parliamentary seat, which has become vacant following the death of Ernest Kumi, who was the MP for the area until his passing.

Though he did not buttress his allegations with any further information, he maintained that the NDC’s performance has caused Ghanaians to realise that “they sold their colour television [voted out the NPP] for black and white”.

He categorically emphasised that the NDC has failed and therefore called on the people of Akwatia to reaffirm their confidence in the opposition NPP and vote massively for its candidate.

The Akwatia by-elections scheduled for September 2, 2025, will be a straightforward battle between the NDC, represented by Bernard Bediako, and Solomon Kwame Asumadu, who will represent the NPP.
