Media personality Nana Yaa Brefo has finally broken her silence on why a GoFundMe campaign has been set up for broadcaster Kofi Adomah, even after businessman Ibrahim Mahama donated a whopping $115,000 towards his eye surgery.

Her revelation comes in response to recent suggestions that Mahama did not fulfill his promise to support Kofi Adomah’s medical expenses, sparking public debate about whether the wealthy businessman truly came through for the ailing journalist.

Addressing the issue on her show on Onua FM on February 21, 2025, Nana Yaa Brefo expressed deep frustration at those doubting Ibrahim Mahama’s commitment. She firmly stated, “Why would you think he couldn’t fulfil his promise? Someone who is one of the richest men in Ghana, with lots of properties?”

She went on to confirm in the report seen on Ghanaweb.com that Mahama indeed kept his word, explaining how he reached out immediately after hearing about Kofi Adomah’s condition.

“He called me and inquired about the incident. I told him everything. He then asked, ‘How much is needed for the surgery?’ When I asked her [Kofi Adomah’s team], they said $120,000. I informed him, and he sent $115,000. That’s what we used for the first surgery,” Nana Yaa Brefo revealed.

However, she was quick to clarify why the GoFundMe was still necessary despite Mahama’s substantial contribution. According to her, the initial accident — which happened when gunpowder residue hit Adomah’s eyes while he was covering a funeral in Kumasi — affected both of his eyes, and only the first surgery has been completed.

“The first surgery is done, but he has another surgery to go. That’s why we’ve launched another GoFundMe,” she explained.

Beyond the upcoming procedure, Nana Yaa Brefo added that the team is also raising funds for additional expenses, including securing extra furniture and other essentials to support Kofi Adomah’s recovery.

“It’s not just about the surgery. We also need to get extra furniture and take care of other things so we can pay more,” she said, urging the public to continue showing their support.
