Independent presidential candidate Nana Kwame Bediako has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to adopt more innovative strategies for funding the country’s football sector.

The New Force leader was critical of the GFA for failing to learn from successful organisations like FIFA, which generates significant revenue through broadcasting deals.

He expressed concern that the GFA is not exploring similar opportunities, relying instead on limited budgets from the government.

“I don’t think they [GFA] are looking at the strategy of other football associations like FIFA. Because FIFA make most of their money from broadcasting. That’s what makes them powerful,” Bediako said in an interview played on Asempa FM.

“So they’ve managed not just for people to play football, but they’ve built relationships with all television channels around the world.

“Ghana, our GFA, is just waiting for a budget and a match. And they carry the people, they go and play, they either win or they lose. They come back, somebody’s going to pay for it.”

Conversations about the state of Ghana football is ongoing because of Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which is the first time in 21 years that the Black Stars will not be at the tournament.
